Sheryl Lott, ARTIST

Our featured artist this Edition is Sheryl Lott. Sheryl is a local artist in Lake Oconee and I am real proud of her accomplishments over the past few years. I have watched her grow in her talent. I proudly feature her this month on our front wall at Magnolia Art Gallery.

According to Sheryl:

“Art is an incredible journey that brings me so much joy! My interest in drawing was sparked by an art teacher while I was attending college at UGA. He told me that anyone can learn to draw. He took our class outside with sketch pad and pencil in hand and he showed me how to look at shapes and draw the barn in front of me. I was amazed as it took shape! ‘I was hooked!’ The numerous art projects fascinated me but I especially loved the painting sessions. I started with watercolors and now I paint primarily with oils. After college came marriage and my husband began a career as a professional golfer and for 11 years we traveled around the country while he played on the PGA Tour. There was not much time to pursue my art during these years since we were also beginning our family of two children. I taught middle school for five years and played golf. I began painting again and the more I painted, the more I wanted to paint. I finally realized that I am happiest when I am painting! In 2009 I made a professional decision to become a full time artist. Today the golf clubs are in the closet and the easels are out. Art is a lot like golf in that to improve your game you must practice and take lessons. I have attended workshops with artists I admire and I consider Jim Richards my professional mentor. Whether painting a still life, figurative, landscape or cityscape…I just love capturing a moment in everyday life. I also enjoy painting “en plein air” which is French for painting outside. This is a great way to capture nature and the beautiful natural outdoor colors. The joy I get from painting is the feeling I hope to convey and share with my viewer.”
Magnolia Art Gallery is so much more than a few words written here can describe. This gallery is a living testament to making your dreams come true! I never dreamed when I began painting in 1982 that my very own paintings would be in the Governor’s Mansion, corporate businesses, lovely private homes here on the lake; that one day I would begin and create such a beautiful art gallery. Now my dream is to feature other artists and help them achieve one of my goals which is to move someone’s spirit and heart with their very own painting. My advice is that you always buy whatever moves your soul. Something that you just fall in love with! You can never go wrong if you do. Come over for a nice visit, a glass of wine, the soft notes of music and true Southern Hospitality! You will always be welcome here! We feature more than 50 of the best creative artists in the United States. Many of our painters are talented men and women who have made this a career choice. When you drop in, you will find so much more here than you ever dreamed would be in a small art gallery in Georgia. You should see the look of surprise on the many faces who walk through our doors! It is a combination of delight & surprise. We have so much more in here than you can even imagine! Ranging from Large Lake scenes & European vistas….large abstract, realism, Audubon’s, limited edition prints & giclees. You can also commission whatever you like from any of our wonderful artists.
